Balkan Trip – Part 8: Kotor Bay

Yesterday’s view of the Kotor Bay reminded us that we are somehow on vacation, and so we spend the day resting and rusting on the beach with a view of the bay, where we happened to find a nice parking spot with a view of the sea.

The next morning, we get up early with the plan to avoid the tourist crowds and drive the remaining kilometers to Kotor. We stroll for a few hours in the beautiful old town with its bright, marble alleyways, steps and squares, relax in quiet cafés in back courtyards and let the Mediterranean lightness of the town work its magic on us.

Luckily, before the first cruise ship floods the harbor, we hop back on the bus and head up to Lovćen National Park. To do this, however, we have to climb the mountain ridge along a serpentine road to which Kotor nestles. Our camper’s engine, which now has over 430,000 km on the odometer, can only just cope with this. But a few cooling breaks, a lot of cold sweat and a newly acquired ADAC Plus membership later, we have climbed the 1000 meters of altitude and find a quiet parking space on a football pitch in a small village.
