TGJ Entry 22: Curious in Kourion and Treading in Troodos

After our trip to the western tip of the island, we return to our parking spot near Kourion, where we picked up little Dobby about a week and a half ago. Now without a second dog, we visit the actual Kourion beach and the ancient site itself, which features well-preserved mosaics from Roman times and a magnificent view of the sea.

Then we head high up into the Troodos Mountains, where we hike along the Artemis Trail around Mount Olympus, the highest point on the island, and visit Kykkos Monastery and the nearby mausoleum of Makarios III, the founder of the Cypriot state. We then continue eastwards on winding roads through the lush green, rugged mountains and visit the Archangelos Michail in Pedoulas, one of the famous and, from the outside, inconspicuous churches of the Troodos Mountains, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Via Lagodeira and Argos, we then drive back to the coast. Near Kiki, we find ourselves back at the parking spot near Caretta Beach, where we stayed when we first arrived in Cyprus.
